The Lion King is the 36th highest grossing film of all time. It is the 4nd highest animation behind Toy Story 3, Minions, and Frozen. Shattering BATB's record, and became the highest grossing hand-drawn film ever and still is today. It was re-released in 2011 and has a rounded total of well over 900 million. The music by Hans Zimmer, Tim Rice, and Elton John was the best anybody heard. The film broke many records at the box office, as it starred a lot of big named stars like Jeremy Irons, Nathan Lane, James Earl Jones, Whoopi Goldberg, Cheech Marin, Madge Sinclair, Rowan Atkinson, Moira Kelly, and Matthew Broderick. The Lion King ended up being a way better film then Pocahontas. People were astonished by how successful it became. As time went on the film developed into what it is today. It was an opportunity for them to show what they could do.
The animators that stayed were amateurs, but they loved animals. So, most of the animators left to go work on Disney's next project Pocahontas as they thought it would have been more successful. That idea changed when they found out that lions don't live in forests, and a lot of people thought that The Lion King was going to be bad. At first called King of the Jungle it was meant to be a documentary/animated styled film with no dialog. The idea of this film arose during production on Oliver and Company. I personally prefer The Lion King, it has been my all time favorite for as long as I can remember. People debate whether this or BATB is the best Disney animation. Considered by some as the King of Animations. But after such a disappointing return on investment, don’t expect to be catching up with the Clade family any time soon.I don't know what to say about this one, because we all know what The Lion King is by now. There may have been some hope prior to release that this could be the start of another Disney mega-franchise ala Frozen. There are arguably movies more deserving of the label of biggest box office flop of 2022 than this one.ĭefinitely don’t expect a Strange World 2 though. Its core message about the importance of family and working together to achieve your goals is as timely as ever, and the animation quality is of the usual high standard you’d expect from Disney Animation Studios.

However, the best Disney movie ever made is not part of a franchise. There is a myriad of reasons why Strange World may have underperformed. But it is nevertheless still tarred by its awful box office return.

Strange World enjoyed more success on streaming, and it quickly became the No.1 movie on Disney Plus over the holiday period. Disney clearly knew the writing was on the wall when it came to Strange World and after its underperformance in theatres quickly transferred the movie over to its Disney Plus streaming service just a month after its release in cinemas.
